Reports of assaults at Wetumpka High School under investigation

WETUMPKA, Ala. - Details on the investigation, including the nature of the assaults, remain unclear.

The ECBoE’s central office personnel are working with WHS’s administration in the ongoing investigation into the assaults, which were reported to the system on Thursday. The board, citing FERPA regulations, said it could not comment on student disciplinary actions, but said “we take all incident reports seriously and are thoroughly investigating this matter at this time.” FERPA is short for the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

The Wetumpka Police Department told WSFA 12 News it it has been notified by the school system of the situation, but Lt. Nick Betts confirmed it is too early to determine if a criminal investigation will be required or if the investigation will remain within the school system.Minor in life-threatening condition after Montgomery shooting
