A Springbok WAG who had a private school upbringing was left in tears after watching a screening of Siya Kolisi's documentary in France.

Rise: The Siya Kolisi documentary has had left viewers inspired and impressed with the success story behind the popular Springboks captain.A special screening of the doccie was shown in Paris, France, in celebration of the Rugby World Cup.One such person moved by Siya Kolisi’s doccie was fellow Springbok WAG Holly Clare Nichol.

Holly – a fitness and nutrition expert – was one of almost a dozen WAGS supporting Siya and his wife Rachel at the screening. In an Instagram post, Holly – the fiancee of player Willie Le Roux – shared how her own privileged childhood was worlds apart from Siya’s poverty-stricken one.She shared: “When I was at school in Cape Town, I volunteered for the outreach program where we would use our lunch break hour to make peanut butter sandwiches for underprivileged schools once a week. We never knew where the sandwiches went.

“Most private schools in Cape Town have outreach programs like this one, but looking back now, the education and motivation behind them is never what it should be. “After watching the film, I now know where the sandwiches went, and I wish I’d made more. While this was a good ten years ago, I feel the narrative behind outreach programs in private schools needs to change. We know, but I don’t think we actually know.

Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story – which won the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival in July – first premiered on DStv in February.
