A Utah teacher forced a student to wash off the Ash Wednesday cross from his forehead.

A teacher in the predominantly Mormon state of Utah was placed on administrative leave after she forced a Catholic student to wash off the Ash Wednesday cross from his forehead.

"The actions were unacceptable," Williams said."No student should ever be asked or required to remove an ash cross from his or her forehead." In Utah, Catholics are the minority. The 330,000 Catholics in the state account for about 10 percent of the population, according to Jean Hill at the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City.

"We understand that mistakes happen," Hill said in a statement."The diocese is also very grateful to the young student who used the situation to educate his teacher about a part of his faith and its importance to him."

She deprived that child the right to religious freedom which is protected under our constitution. Catholics with ashes on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday is not uncommon. If that was my son? I’d be in that school demanding an apology.

Let it go already. Accident or no accident, let it go

Is this news? I mean, c’mon!!

Taking away Freedoms is against the Constitution.

I was out of the Army before I found out the meaning of the mark. It is bad the teacher didn’t know. I feel the problem should be addressed by the school explaining the various things all religions do at various parts of the year.

the parents got involved and the teacher got in trouble for this

1969, Tinker vs Des Moines

Our kids & grandkids had teachers who bullied them. They lost their teaching license. My husband & I absolutely would not tolerate their bullying. We complained until we & other parents got what we wanted. Their license gone. Bullies should not be tolerated.

Utah -- Mormons

Fire her

Oh dear...😳

People will do anything to get attention on social media....

Reward the teacher

Go Utes?

How despicable can you get? Glad it wasn't my kid she would never forget her place again.

Not newsworthy.

How awful for this little guy.

See you in court, teacher.

All the teacher bashers should try substituting. You wouldn't last a day.

This is just stupid. I'm all for division of Church and State, but what people do on their own time is their own thing. Maybe all those Books of Mormon in hotels need to be recycled? Asking for a friend.

Not looking good for the teacher.

Mormons complain about religious persecution and then religiously persecuted. Seems about right.

Likely didn’t know what it was

ABC you do realize this happened 4 days ago🤨4days too late try and keep up ABCnews

God won't understand...now he will burn in HELL... But God is good

This shows just how dictatorial some people can be. Just because that child went to church during Ash Wednesday she is condemning his religion. Hope the parents go after this teacher.

Freedom of Religion? Is she still employed?

That is a 'hate crime'. It involved a physical action

'my imaginary best friend says to wear ash on my forehead', and a real person says no. I don't really see a problem here.

The Utah teacher made an honest mistake. He or she thought it was be an ASS Wednesday. 🤪

Teachers are out of control.

Teachers and administrators feel emboldened to restrict conservative and Christian values, yet they allow prayer rugs and worship for muslims?

I was married to a teacher who would sit at the dinner table and brag when he humiliated a child in one of his classes. Come on! Would she force a Muslim child take off her head covering? This teacher should be suspended for at least 2 weeks without pay. I hate bullies!

The government should not be preventing citizens from freely exercising their religion.

Mormons push their own agenda here in schools and in government.

It wasn't antisemitic, so get over it!!

Teacher Unions force politicians to limit non union Charter Schools removing our school choice. Union dues from NEA and AFT contribute to political action committees and political party campaigns! Enough!

This is sad me being a catholic this hurts a lot but especially cause we live in USA where we can express our religion freely. For many churches we believe it’s better not remove the ashes and sleep with them since it’s gods blessing and as well as keep them till the next day

I love hiw teachers suddenly think they can do whatever they want. The students questioning the senator (forgot her name) was ridiculous, especially when the teacher who had obviously brainwashed the kids spoke up.

Maybe we should was her brain off. Come on, I'm not religious and even I know this is wrong. I guess this little kid couldn't learn with some ashes in his forehead? That's ridiculous.

Why didn't the teacher just call the parents to discuss any concerns...you know...communicate (sigh)

That was wrong. Plain and simple. Wrong.

FIRE THE TEACHER!

Democrat

Maybe we should wash his brain off. I'm not religious but come on. That's not good.

I remember republicans and FoxNews addicts going nuts when JoeBiden had appeared on TV with his , they accused him of not washing resistance resist Trump

Good

She asked him which one of his mothers allowed him to leave like that. No sister wife should ever let a kid go to school this way.

... NOBODY WILL CRY ABOUT THIS AS RELIGIOUS OPPRESSION...

A bit intolerant.
