A teacher in the predominantly Mormon state of Utah was placed on administrative leave after she forced a Catholic student to wash off the Ash Wednesday cross from his forehead.
"The actions were unacceptable," Williams said."No student should ever be asked or required to remove an ash cross from his or her forehead." In Utah, Catholics are the minority. The 330,000 Catholics in the state account for about 10 percent of the population, according to Jean Hill at the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City.
"We understand that mistakes happen," Hill said in a statement."The diocese is also very grateful to the young student who used the situation to educate his teacher about a part of his faith and its importance to him."
Wow. Does she have tenure? 'Cause if she doesn't know Ash Wednesday she doesn't know either 'ash' or 'Wednesday' is clearly not a fit for her job and should be retrained - or resign.

It’s Utah people. However-Parents should have communicated with the teacher before. A quick internet search would have given the teacher the info needed to understand the reason and let it go. Even BretBaier wore it during his evening show Wednesday and gave it a mention.
That teacher is rude, and it’s not right for that teacher to take away this students religious views. I would say if it was distracting the class then yes wash it off, but if it wasn’t then leave the kid alone. I’m not a Christian but I do respect others beliefs.

Seems ABC little tweet left a whole lot of information off the story. They could have included the School handled the issue, but to me it seems ABC was attempting to sensationalize the story for dirty reasons

As a devout Catholic I read this story. The teacher made a mistake. The school district profusely apologized. It shouldn’t have happened but they handled it well.
Not my child . . . she would not. We would have to have a long, serious listening session on what she can tell my child to do, and religious discrimination will not be tolerated.
That is ridiculous, mormons do not celebrate Ash Wednesday. 😉
