Halifax Regional Police issued 96 tickets, suspended one driver, charged two people with criminal offences including assaulting a police officer, and arrested one other person on the weekend in connection with theWhile some parties started in the area in the late morning, police says most of the estimated 3,000 people started showing up at about 12:30 p.m. in the areas of Larch and Jenning streets before spilling onto Preston Street and Payzant Avenue.
Police worked to disperse the crowd safely, they said, and once that happened stayed in the area until the early-morning hours to prevent"further unlawful activity from recurring." During the arrest, police seized a replica firearm and sensory irritant. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date.
Police also arrested another man for public intoxication. He was held in cells for a time and later released.One driver was issued a driving suspension for driving while having consumed alcohol.
