Following similar actions in France and Italy, England’s Department for Education is preparing new guidance to ban phones in school — even outside of lessons — to improve children's focus and help tackle bullying and disruptive behavior. The department previously said in February 2022 that national rules were unnecessary because most schools were already taking action. Now, the government says the guidance could be written into law if it's ignored.
