In an email to parents and guardians Thursday, Principal Sullivan High School Jeff Cooks acknowledged the incident, and said the school was working to de-escalate these type of altercations and handle them in accordance with Chicago Public Schools policies.

“Please know that we are taking this situation extremely seriously to ensure the safety of our school community.

We have requested additional safety support from the Office of Safety and Security as part of our efforts. If your child has voiced any fears or concerns to you about this situation, please let us know so we can ensure their social-emotional needs are met,” Cooks wrote in the email.
