President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of being on a fishing expedition in his demand for Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University .
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Nigerian leader made this remark in his response to Atiku’s move against Tinubu’s emergency motion asking the court to cancel the order by Magistrate Judge Jeffery Gilbert asking CSU to release his records to Atiku. The response by Tinubu was filed late Thursday night in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
In his response, Tinubu argues that Magistrate Judge Gilbert, who gave the order on September 19 in a ruling on an application by Atiku, exercised power he did not have under Section 1782 of the US Statute.Tinubu further argues that Atiku is merely on a fishing expedition because the documents he is seeking from CSU can no longer be admitted at the current state of the appeal he filed at the Supreme Court, because the Presidential Election Petition Court had deemed them inadmissible.
