When a college student had to bring his baby to class, this professor helped out so he could take notes.

Professor Nathan Alexander holds Wayne Hayer's 5-month-old daughter, Asada, at Morehouse College on Mar. 1. By Deanna Paul Deanna Paul Reporter covering national and breaking news Email Bio Follow March 4 at 6:30 AM Mathematics professor Nathan Alexander was always on his students, including Morehouse College senior Wayne Hayer.

He had never seen another Morehouse student bring a baby to class, although he had heard about young women — wives and single mothers — doing so. "There’s a negative stereotype about African American men not being fathers to their children and a myth that most black people come from single-parent households,” Hayer said.

— TheOriginal™ March 1, 2019 Classmate Nick Vaughn posted a photo of the scene on Facebook and Twitter that soon spread to Reddit. At the time of publication, the tweet was liked 296,000 times, and had been retweeted more than 72,000 times. One user, who does not know Alexander, recounted in the comment section on Twitter how supported she felt when her professor encouraged her to bring her baby to class, too.

I can guarantee that if I brought my kids to class, I would be facing corrective action

Here’s a crazy idea. Let’s get our professors to teach about the long term economic benefits of universal child care for families, children and the country as a whole so that one day we might actually have it!

Should have waited to have the kid

TomAshbrook prolife

I did this too while I was teaching and I didn't have any helper. Hats off!

On the surface a heartwarming story. Thinking it through, the guy works two jobs and bettering himself through college and the baby’s mother is a stay at home mom AND somehow he ends up bringing the baby to class?

chengelis Some heroes wear capes; some wear bjorns.

chengelis Take care of business brew.. Great job!!!

This is an emotional bullshit story. Go to school, get a job, get married, have a child only if you can afford to raise it. That should be the sequence, it's just basic common sense

How are the equations on the board college level Isn’t that the bigger scandal?

A sweet story. But what happens when the student is the mother?

That’s because Democrat Socialists-Fascists teach students to be dependent on government from cradle to grave.

colleges have daycare and if your low income it's free

Now do a follow up on the professor who is probably an adjunct living in poverty.

not gonna read the article but I’d guess that this story ends with the teacher doing a seven step drop and hucking the baby out the window and 150 yards easy as tears in heaven blares from unseen speakers and the whole class solemnly raises the roof in unison

I love this man.

Absolutely beautiful ItTakesAVillage

Good on this teacher, seems like.a.guy who cares about his students and their future. On the other hand, why couldn't this man's lazy baby momma take the kid w/her to run the errands? Seriously. stepupladies

The 'no real solutions' part is actually incorrect; there really isn't an equation to solve. He means '-5 is not in the domain of f', I think.

I think, it is a 5 month baby who attended same college class along with father and professor taught both. This is how society respect each other.

I have done that several times and love to watch the energy of the class change with wee ones in the crowd!

Universal rent control would solve a lot of problems as well. Hey while we’re at it universal income and healthcare and college. Oh! Universal cars! Electric ones! And Unicorns! And it should be sunny everyday with rainbows! Yeah that would be awesome lets do that!!

You go Professor! Much love!

Simply Beautiful.

What a great teacher, who actually wants his students to succeed.

Who cares

all lovely immigrants and natives in this lands, respect your history and family and memory. never sell nor forgive up. respect yourself. like human.

Newsflash: You do better when you postpone making babies until you’re done with school and get married

Although this is undeniably sweet it should also shed light on the ridiculous burdens you are putting on a mostly part time faculty 🤔

Don’t have a baby if he can’t take care of him.

Most people wait till after the finish school and they establish a stable career before having kids.

Exactly the kind of teachers that we should double their salaries... take 1/2 the salary from our politicians! 🥰

Stay stupid

After 8 years of Obama they’re still no universal childcare? Unacceptable

This isn’t heartwarming. Universal childcare would have prevented this.

College professor praised after photo of him caring for student's baby during class goes viralDr. Nathan Alexander said baby Assata was 'extremely well-behaved' during his 50-minute lecture on Friday. Yes. Imagine the success for women that would be possible if they had the childcare advantages shown to the male student involved. Generally, if women bring babies to class, they are considered inept at managing their commitments. We need universal child care options.
