AS a 'recovered' politician, teaching college courses has given me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I may have a lot of stories to tell as their teacher, but I also continue to learn more from my students.

One of the graduate courses I have been handling is about governance, both in the public and private sectors. Without fail, my students invariably get to compare corporate and public administration.

Quite often, there emerges a palpable sense of frustration and hopelessness about running the government, regardless of who is in power. But, to show them that there are actual examples of good governance in the country, I used to bring my students to Marikina to meet the then-mayor Bayani Fernando.
