China could stem the flow of its students studying at Australian universities on the back of greater investment in its own higher education sector.

Students from China make up more than a third of Australia's university enrolments.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of New South Wales Professor Ian Jacobs warns those numbers will begin to slide over the next ten years and says China is becoming an increasingly attractive place to study.
