Why Australian universities are set to suffer a drop in students from China

The number of Chinese students studying in Australia will decline over the next decade as a key competitor in the lucrative international education market - China - invests in itself, the vice-chancellor of a leading university has warned.

"Demand is still very high, and postgraduates is higher than ever. I am not sure if we have yet hit the peak. More and more students from China want opportunities and their system cannot yet respond to demand. But we have to face the fact that it gradually will." In this week's QS university subject rankings, Australia slipped slightly backwards "across the board", said UNSW's pro vice-chancellor Laurie Pearcey, while noteworthy gains came from mainland China and Singapore.

Some wealthy Indian families that once looked to top British and US universities were now looking elsewhere because of post-study work restrictions in the UK, and political uncertainty due to Brexit and Donald Trump's presidency.

This is good for Australia. We need to not be dependent on international students from any country. Less Chinese influence in our universities is a good thing. auspol ausuni

Let this be a lesson to us Westerners. The Chinese have created a Learning environment here in Aus over the past 20 years with the guaranteed income of millions in fees to universities. Now, they are building their own education system very similar in China.

The real is australia is worried because they lossing billions of money from education business

it would be good for our uni Now they r crowded as unis r grabbing foreign students as long as they pay big fat fee Those who came had been rejected in China Unis r dangling PR visa carrot to allure them it is why d intake numbers r big 200k/yr Demand fr 3rd world students

Loss of productivity?

It’s because the Chinese actually want to learn broad ideas , not just one sided ‘safe’ ideas that don’t offend them. University is no place for people who can’t cope with broad concepts of thought. Expel those who oppose broad ideas, uni is not a place suited to them!

I'd blame police unions and the ones who did nothing about the fake news that's called humanrights in this country. Dont worry,Im helping Police, Chinese, gay s.. Took a. Poof to do it HOWBOUDAT Australia auspol SydneygayandlesbianMardiGras SydneyMardiGras timesup PFW
