Despite this, Loble believes the nation needs to get better at measuring children’s progress while they are in early childhood services. Madeleine-Jane Smith, the head of curriculum at Hunter Valley Grammar junior school, said the early learning centre attached to the school screens children before day one of kindergarten to assess ability and help with transition to the first primary year.
