Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan say a recent outbreak shows ancient diseases can still come back \u0027with a vengeance.\u0027

“At this stage of our careers, it’s a lot of grant-writing, but we still do a lot of bench work as well,” Dhar said.

“As soon as we hear about these cases, we’re ready if CFIA calls on us, we are ready, primed to assist,” Chen said from VIDO’s facility at the University of Saskatchewan. “But we follow CFIA’s lead. At the moment, it’s early stages of the investigation. We’re just waiting and watching like everyone else what CFIA finds next.”Article content

Chen and others at VIDO are continuing to work on a bovine TB vaccine, which would benefit countries where the disease is more prevalent, and protect market access for Canadian producers, he said.Article content
