Philippine national men’s volleyball team head coach Sergio Veloso is the new head coach of the Ateneo women’s volleyball team, the school announced on Monday night, July 3. | ManilaBulletin

The Brazilian mentor is set to replace Oliver Almadro at the helm come the volleyball season, coaching both the women’s and girls’ squads.

Veloso was officially welcomed during a courtesy call to Ateneo president Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ as he is tasked to steer the team back to the top of the tournament.## The Blue Eagles had a disappointing campaign in UAAP Season 85 after missing out on the Final Four for the first time in 14 years.

Almadro, who previously coached the men’s side, began calling the shots for the women’s squad in 2018, where he steered the team to its third title in his first stint. The national team coach is now tasked to bring the Blue Eagles back to the Final Four as he inherits a squad which just recently saw the departure of its standouts in Faith Nisperos and Vanie Gandler who both turned pro.
