In response to what Premier Daniel Andrews has labelled "vile, evil and incredibly damaging abuse", the Victorian government has announced a board of inquiry to investigate historical sexual abuse at Beaumaris Primary School in Melbourne's south-east.
The inquiry, which will be chaired by Kathleen Foley SC, and report back to the Victorian government by February 28, 2024, will also account for the abuse of children by the same teachers at other government schools.Earlier in the year, Mr Andrews met with survivors and pledged that the Victorian government would issue an official apology to all survivors of childhood sexual abuse in Victorian government schools.
"This inquiry won't undo their pain, but we hope it gives victim-survivors the recognition and support they deserve." "To give some victim survivors the opportunity for their voices to be heard and stories told, while not extending that opportunity to everyone, is just not right," Mr Rowswell said in a statement.
