To ease issues created by bus driver shortages and an increase in student riders, Lamar CISD has changed school hours for the 2023-24 school year.To relieve issues created by a bus driver shortage and an increase in riders, Lamar CISD has, primarily impacting students at the middle school and junior high level who will see the school day begin and end 50 minutes later than in previous years.
The district has moved from having two schedules, or tiers, for students to four, with each having different start and end times. Elementary students will be divided by campus into two groups, A and B, with the school day for A extending from 7.15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the schedule for B from 7.45 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. The junior high/middle school schedule will be from 9:05 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and high school will be from 9:25 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.7:45 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.Group A campuses:
The announcement has drawn mixed reactions from parents on Facebook, with some expressing support and saying they recognize the pressing need to address the transportation problem, while others are upset by the 7.15 a.m. school start time for Group A elementary students.
