Lamar CISD trustees approved a plan to hire 18 additional police officers to strengthen the district's police department for the next school year.Lamar CISD plans to hire 18 additional police officers before classes start on Aug. 14, and the district will assign an officer to each of its 30 elementary schools.
“The board budget committee has made the safety and security of students, staff and facilities their No. 1 priority for the 2023-24 budget,” Jill Ludwig, the district's chief financial officer, told trustees at the school board's May 16 meeting. The district has three secondary complexes, each with a middle school, junior high and high school in close proximity. Two police officers are assigned to each complex.
