A New York high school baseball team lost the sectional championship as a premature celebration led to the opposing team scoring the game-winning run.

The game ball on the mound prior to the game between the Marlins and the Washington Nationals at loanDepot park on May 17, 2023, in Miami, Florida.

Palmyra-Macedon had runners in scoring position when the batter looked at the pitch and was presumably called out on strikes. However, the pitch appeared to graze the dirt, which meant the catcher had to tag the batter or throw the ball to first to complete the out.As the celebration was ongoing, the two Palmyra-Macedon runners came around to score. They would be declared the winners of the championship, 6-5.
