Students and parents at Frank Roberts Junior High in Foxtrap filled the school parking lot this morning to bring attention to serious issues at the school, and call for a new one to be built.
Students and parents both say there is a rat problem at the school. That has been refuted by the provincial government and the school district, who say inspections have turned up evidence of mice, which is not uncommon in large buildings, but no rats. School council member and parent Sabrina Greene says their concerns are not just about the alleged rat issue, and there are a multitude of issues that need to be looked at—noting that the facilities are not up to par.
“We want something better for our kids,” says Greene. She says children with special needs don’t have proper bathroom facilities, and the elevator frequently doesn’t work. She says the hallways are so small that the school has to stagger dismissals because it is unsafe for students.
