An 8-year-old girl has been killed in a hit-and-run collision outside of a school in Burlington.
Halton police spokesperson Jon Williams confirmed the incident happened around 5:38 p.m. Wednesday. The girl was in the area of Burlington Central High School and Central Public School, which share a driveway near the intersection of Baldwin and Locust streets. A driver coming out from one of the schools in the driveway struck the girl.
Williams says the girl was found by emergency crews conscious and breathing but her condition turned critical and she died later in the evening. With the help of reports from witnesses, police located a 21-year-old male at his home and arrested him for failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. Williams says these charges may change after the investigation is concluded.
