This headline makes it sound like The Guardian thinks poor people are stupid.
Who'd have thunk it, just like access and the ability to study for a degree is being reserved for those who are more well off. Knowledge is power, look at the middle East - diversifying from oil into a knowledged based economy
Bring back HNDs and let's have more practical skills based qualifications. If we are serious about diversity, we need these alongside GCSEs. Not everyone is academic. This is a fact bore out by my experience as a teacher.
Wonder if Michael Gove is now smiling and thinking of what “Hannibal” Smith might say in this situation ?
Generally but not exclusively, people who are poor tend to be thicker than wealthier people
What’s it actually doing is causing more mental health issues in young people with anxiety and stress! The former GCSE worked better on many levels. Fact!
There's no poor and rich here, is good and bad student.
You're on your own the invisible hand says. The teacher said for her to read her textbook and put the effort in. She's not putting the input in to get the results and output. Do richer parents value and care about education more. They were going on about cultural capital here.
To be fair that's the way it should be. We can't dumb everything down to be 'inclusive'
So politicians were narrowing the gap before by making them easier?
We should make them really really easy so there is very little difference. Gap closed !
