, 70 to 80 percent of students receiving a voucher were already in private school before taxpayers picked up the tab. In New Hampshire, 9 out of 10 students receiving vouchers were already in private school settings.
Students in urban districts whose parents can’t afford private school tuition exceeding the amount provided by a voucher would also pay a price. According to thereleased March 24, the nation's average cost of K-12 private school tuition is $23,839. The $8,000 promised in Senate Bill 8 wouldn’t come close to covering the tuition. That doesn’t even address the cost and hassle of transportation to a private school without busing.
With a voucher program, the most vulnerable of our students will get left behind. Is that the future we find acceptable? Is that the Texas our kids deserve?
Why does state have to pay for a kids “private” education? My Mom and Dad paid mine. Went from public 8th to private 9th. It was their decision and costs related. If you can’t pay for what YOU consider a first rate education process, work to acquire one for your kids. Not funded.
