They aren’t keen on moving all their teams back to Canadian competition, saying that “we’re happy where we are at.” Caravatta took issue with the school not having a full-fledged news conference to announce the program folding. SFU’s last game was an 18-17 loss at home to the UBC Thunderbirds in the resurrected Shrum Bowl. Athletes devastated as Simon Fraser University ends its football program | CBC NewsThe Burnaby, B.C. university announced Tuesday that it would be discontinuing its varsity team, effectively immediately, ending a 53-year tradition at the school. It’s an institution of higher learning. A competitive football team is unnecessary. Why can't SFU play in the Canadian university league? CFL Team sports are an important component of the higher education experience, both for athletes and for students who get into the spirit of it. Very short sighted move by SFU to not reinforce teamwork. They could play in Canada.
