San Diego police on Thursday released the name of a 7-week-old girl who they say was fatally injured by her father.Her father, Jaime Santillanes,About 10 p.m. March 18, police received a call about an infant who was not breathing at a townhome on La Jolla Village Drive near Lebon Drive in University City.Police then learned she had suffered serious traumatic internal injuries “that were indicative of physical child abuse,” Lt. Steve Shebloski said.
The Child Abuse Unit was assigned the case, but three days later, the same day the girl died, the Homicide Unit took over the investigation. Based on interviews with witnesses, evidence and input from medical professionals, detectives believe the infant’s father fatally injured her, Shebloski said. Santillanes was arrested March 23 and remained jail without bail Thursday. He faces 25 years to life if convicted.
