The $35 million Buffalo Speedway Reconstruction Project is replacing underground drainage pipes that were in place since the 1940s with large box culverts from Bissonnet to the West U's outfall at Poor Farm Ditch. The project was split into two stages and was overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation and West U. The new box culverts should decrease the likelihood of flooding during major rain events, TxDOT reports.
Buffalo Speedway has experienced traffic congestion, closed lanes and downed street lights since the project began. The city released a notice on March 29, saying that they are aware of the streetlights that are currently out on Buffalo Speedway and are working with CenterPoint Energy to get them fixed.
