LGBTQ students sue Texas college for blocking drag show -

Filed Friday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the lawsuit accuses WTAMU President Walter Wendler of “openly defying the Constitution” and points out that the First Amendment prevents public universities from silencing unpopular self-expression.

The complaint adds, quoting from the president’s campuswide email canceling the show: “In his edict, President Wendler confessed he is censoring Spectrum WT based on his personal views, and unabashedly admitted that doing so violates the Constitution: ‘A harmless drag show? Not possible. I will not appear to condone the diminishment of any group at the expense of impertinent gestures toward another group for any reason, even when the law of the land appears to require it.

The lawsuit comes amid a growing national backlash against drag shows, which critics say sexualize young children and demean women. Several Texas legislators have proposed a drag tax that would reclassify any establishment hosting the performances as a sexually oriented business.

I'm not against bawdy entertainment for young adults, but shouldn't that be at a local nightlife club with some drinks rather than campus? You'd probably cut your loan amounts by objecting to the use of your fees on such whimsical entertainment.

They would be better off studying and preparing to make a living wage. Keep your sex life private.

How can people cite religious beliefs that don't exist. Under what religious argument does religion condemn drag shows (men dressing up as women and putting up a show)?

Could those students quote the Constitution where it says we have the Right to Entertainment? And here I thought it covered the Right to Education. My bad.

But do what you want. It's your soul. But STAY AWAY FROM CHILDREN YOU FREAKS! Ask any authoritarian country's occupants 'What happens when you let religion control the government?'
