Around 30 years ago there was a consultation to close the 6th form at BramptonManor1 The pupils launched a campaign to keep it open!! Looks like it was worth it!! ❤️myschool
afneil Great results
A selective sixth form with academic vigour outside the control of the the LEA. A grammar school then ...... well done you have proved the worth of this as a way forward
Their head of year 6 said on the bbc that if you aim for the moon you’ll hit a few stars on the way .... I’m guessing he doesn’t teach science.
afneil So long as they got in because of their results and not the colour of their skin due to the bad publicity just to look to be doing the right thing. Good luck to them all. Hopefully a Maggie Thatcher in there!
Congratulation's.
hilarybennmp Then the story is dropped and 1 kid gets in as a caretaker
Don’t tell this to DavidLammy
Great result for the school, but why does BBC obsess about Oxbridge as if there are no other universities? It actively belittles others. Because BBC all went to Oxbridge?
BBCWorld jealous & racist comments.kids worked hard and deserved their reward. Ppl here commenting missed out on their privileges
Black and brown people always get labelled lazy and dumb even though we work 10x harder to get anywhere. When we obtain higher levels, all of a sudden it’s “overrated” or it’s a “quota thing” or “what about us whites”. White people are so bitter and hateful, unbelievable
'London' state school. Says it all.
Great done.
Well done to them!
I thought this had been happening for ages though. It will be news when this sort of thing happens for BME-heavy schools outside of London - everyone knows london gets the best teachers, volunteers and support
Something seems fishy about this
The least represented group at Oxbridge are white working class males - there is 1 white male in that photo.
afneil I guess if they had not been selected for this elitist state school many would have found their way to top universities regardless because presumably they are exceedingly bright?
afneil I would like to see the range of offers ( grades)to ensure this is all on merit and not an artificially created PC imbalance in the wrong direction. 41 seems a lot from one highly selective state school Social Engineering gone mad? Or genuine progress
Presumably Oxford and Cambridge are filling diversity quotas.
afneil And I can only spot about 5 white kids there....Just saying!
afneil Not a very diverse looking group!
afneil what a suprise when 400% more money spent on london schools than the rest of britain.
BBCLondonNews Stabbings and free lunch meals going to be the norm then? It is sad to see this country going down the pan
Ahem....only if you’re a certain colour, by the looks of it. White, working class boys are least likely to go to Oxbridge.
A lot of boxes ticked.
afneil Bit of a theme here
afneil Bright kids whatever but let’s equalise opportunity across all education
afneil Congratulations all.
afneil Great news, though, judging from some comments, it must be remembered these are offers & do not guarantee places. Much still hangs on performance in final exams. Nevertheless, it is heartening & serves to show determination & effort, regardless of background, can bring rewards.
afneil If all based on merit. Then good.
Good luck to the selected students but this is Reverse Discrimination gone crazy. Seemingly merit is not the primary objective now for entry into a University, Oxford or not. I hope that the results of this are recorded so that in 3 years the choice also can be judged for merit.
They say all of the offers are for ethnic minority? Well in that photo looks like the white kids are the minority.
If there were 41 offers to an independent school you would be reporting this as an outrage.
Great to see all this success there must be half a dozen white faces there. I hope the school is working hard to bring more whites to the same academic levels to have equality with the non british.
And the knock on effects of politically correct virtue signally placement allocation will be plain to see in about 30 years.
Absolutely fantastic news! Huge congratulations to everyone at BramptonManor1 and best of luck with your future studies!
afneil The comments here tell you all you need to know about how success, particularly if meritocratic and involving immigrant communities, is seen to some. A vague nauseous feeling and profound sadness.
Be interesting to see how many make it through Year 1. Unfortunately i dont think it will be much over 50% of them.
afneil Highly competitive and interview candidates, and they have 5(!) Oxbridge graduates just for university admissions. So they are massively advantaged over the average oxbridge applicant.
Wonderful news. Congratulations to all of them & wishing them lots of success in the future !!!
afneil What’s the funding per pupil compared to the average state school? My daughters well run and efficient state school in Barnsley (not exactly an affluent area) could not afford such facilities!
is that a good selection of what makes up the british populace
HackneyAbbott Not the private one HackneyAbbott sent her ownson to then?
afneil Much can be learned here about the work and programmes that Newham Council have to ensure that their young people get the best education possible, given the resources available. Newham schools perform particularly well in general.
afneil Good stuff but I do wish we'd stop this obsession with Oxbridge. Thousands of young people attend perfectly good universities across the land and go on to contribute to the country. That's without those who don't attend Uni.
BBCYoungReport They would have gone to Oxbridge regardless. They are all self motivated. Show the same result for a non selective school.
BBCYoungReport Easy to teach motivated and bright children. Credit to school is unjustified.
afneil ✅ - tick in box 😒
My nephew secured an offer, but he didn't get it. So he's at Glasgow University now. Education wise he's still getting the same quality of education on offer at Oxford. I'm glad he didn't get it they would have made a snob of him.
afneil London highly selective state school.
This school seems to have a lot of money to spend on study facilities that most cannot afford. My childs school expects parents to buy revision books. Seems like some schools get priority over others.
Article omits that the school (presumably) has top teachers, and supportive parents/guardians. Not surprising that it has 'a very traditional approach ... does not rely on supply teachers and has an in-house team of five Oxbridge graduates solely dedicated to university access.'
How many actually end up going to Oxford or Cambridge?
afneil Yes, once you kill the meritocracy you can make all your left wing dreams come true.
FbpeReynard Wonderful news! Hope this does something to counter the Oxbridge elitism trope we hear every year. Never sure if this is well meaning but misguided, or a deliberate strategy by the media elite to discourage the Plebs from applying (so it's easier for their thick kids to get in).
Is is because of the new Cockney quota system ?
Is is 'cause they are Cockneys ?
Just shows that State schools can work, when they are not overshadowed by entitled Grammar schools.
afneil Well done you girls. In the majority there I think
afneil And only 11 of them boys. Not good enough
I was wondering how a state school could do so well when the majority are delighted with just one or two place but if you read the article it seems these kids are super motivated.
Did they tick a box or did they earn it? This is the problem of lowering standards and having quotas. Those who earn it don’t get the credit they deserve because we can never be sure.
afneil Well done all. Lydia travels 2 hours to get there though? Is this normal for a school or are they manipulating entrance? Postcode Private?
Is it coz they is black?
afneil Highly selective 3000 applicants for 200 places what happened to all the kids that should be there
equality of outcome or of opportunity ?
afneil This is only new cos it's so unusual.
afneil
Theres no achievement here. Instead its a kick in the face to all the people trying hard to get in but miss out because they arent coloured or an immigrant and don't get this pity offer. You get into these places on merit not because you've lived in fucking Algeria once.
since when do we have 'state' schools? we dont have states. london public school please
Congratulations to these kids who I’m sure fully deserve their chance but Oxbridge entry has become a box ticking exercise based on quotas not merit.
are we still pretending whites are a majority or not? asking for a friend
Brilliant!! A chance to move on and up - good luck to all that get places
🤔🤔🤔
Mseting BAME quotas?
41? Is this academic based or the old feeling sorry for offer?
