Luke Sharrett / Bloomberg via Getty ImagesWe all know Lunchables — the miniature snack-pack filled with pieces of ham and crackers, or small DIY pizzas that have excited American children for years.
Starting this year, school administrators will be able to buy two different Lunchables offerings for the 2023-2024 school year: Turkey and Cheddar Cracker Stacker and Extra Cheesy Pizza, Kraft Heinz spokesperson Jenna Thornton told NBC News. Thornton says the two Lunchables now meet National School Lunch Program guidelines and"have a specialized recipe that incorporates more protein and whole grains,""reduced saturated fat and sodium, and an increased serving size."
Tax dollars going to this crap? I guess the stories about child obesity were fake news.
This is counterintuitive to the healthy meals push California is known for. Some of the only hot meals our students get comes from their school cafeterias, and they want to make this a viable option? That money could be used in partnerships with local farmers markets, established…
Highly processed salty fatty food. That won’t lead to more obesity.
More crap food for school children. High in fat and carbs
Disgusting. Corperatism is a disease.
I live in a rural, poor district with massive food insecurity. Kids who are food insecure and their parents care about eating. If it's these, so be it. It's food. It's not the best but it's food
Processed food, so healthy can’t wait.
It’s not nutritious or filling. Two tiny cold “pizza” discs or tiny cheese and crackers isn’t enough for even a snack. Another corporate deal at the expense of kids health.
no.
Well, at least the poors will have some trash to eat.
These should come with a mandatory social worker chat with the parents.
I got this crap kicked out at my children’s school it’s fresh fruit, vegetables and no meat is processed. It’s not that hard and it’s cooked in a commercial kitchen and transported to the school in certified food carrier vehicles.
Is it the most nutritious thing? No, but for the children who are at risk for or have hunger insecurity it’s at least a start. Someone (Kraft company) is willing to help address the issue.
Last time I looked at Lunchables - decades ago - they were primarily served in plastic packaging. Is the current packaging recyclable/sustainable?
alwaysonoffense Absolute trash food. Which of course is the point.
“Free lunch”
Disgusting. Kraft fanagled a deal to get their grubby corporate hands on school lunch money. These are not healthy meals. Filled with fat, processed meat and crackers? We've fallen so low when it comes to funding schools and taking care of our kids.
We all know lunchables are trash. The kids do love them though, so I’m fine with it. However, my only gripe is that the pizza ones only have two small crusts and a shit load of pepperoni and cheese. How does that make any sense?
What do the French feed their kids at school? Other modern nations? Something is off here..
They look vile.
alwaysonoffense It's called a food library
Yikes
I guess we really care what our children put into their bodies…
Yuk! These are awful for our children.
They should have done this a long ass time ago!
a whole 277 calories lmfao
Free lunch for the kids 😋 🙌
We need farm to table for these kids. Good healthy unprocessed foods, so much healthier. Especially for children.
