The choice is already there for those who want it. Forcing every student to take a tech course is unfair just as it would be if every student was forced to take music, or dance, or hairdressing.

Way to push more work on kids that are overloaded…forcing students to take trades courses is stupid

GOOOD. Have a mandatory Tax course while you’re at it.

This will only piss off high school students who have other interests & ambitions. There already isn’t enough time or opportunity to complete the courses that they actually want to take. Kids who want trades, take tech courses already. It’s called choice, which you cons like, no?

Mandatory? Hate to break it to everybody, but schools exist for the purpose of developing human beings, not employees.

Not sure I agree. We need students to have life skills. But streaming was discontinued a few years back so tech schools aren't getting the students they used to get.

OK, this is an excellent idea. Good work, tories! Unfortunately, a lot of students will forfeit an opportunity to learn about construction and automotive technology by taking more information technology courses. If I were back in high school I would take the shop courses.

Maybe start promoting the trades instead of computer work an we wouldn't be in this spot

I don't see the issues people are complaining about, it is already mandatory to have at least one art credit. I don't see a problem with requiring at least one tech credit.

The Hersheys will resist

But that will take away from the students learning about sexual violence, art, queer experiences, third languages, and other essential educations!

Many schools have been doing this for many, many years

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

If the reason for having to earn a credit in these so called tech courses in high school is to make students aware of different workplaces and life situations, then it makes some sense. But that does not explain why it is a mandatory requirement at all. Not everyone is the same.

My high school curriculum included wood & metal shop, electricity, and electronics. I valued the broader experience as I spent my career in IT. My concern is the lack of focus on learning to learn and developing critical thinking skills, both crucial to future success.

Also, where's the announcement about the Ford gov cutting out student success funding starting next year? Think less guidance counsellors, no resource teachers, no spec Ed support for students with learning disabilities.

Great idea to reinstate this requirement in high school. Would be also great to reinstate all the arts & music programs as well. Might not become professionals but might discover & learn something they didn’t. Adds new ways of thinking & seeing the world we live in.

Hmmm....most schools don't have vocational tech facilities so this just means more students will be doing computer tech courses. There'll be minimal impact on the skilled trades deficit. Plus com tech class sizes are just gonna increase due to funding cuts and lack of teachers

100s of 1000s of people a year in immigration, what jobs are they filling if not in skilled trades and areas of the economy that are needed? It seems as immigration increases, so too do labour shortages.. We’re importing nobodies for liberal votes.

This is dumb, and I'm a tradesman originally from Ontario. The problem isn't interest, it's ease of access to actually get certified. I grew up in Kenora, the closest place in Ontario I could go for schooling in my trade was Sudbury or further, hence why I left the province

If they want to productively fill those vacant positions, they will need instructors from those professions, not unless university ideologues.

Maybe revamp your careers course? Mostly taught about going to university or college I believe. Not a lot mentioned about trades or trade school in my opinion.

Mandatory technological education credits are a step in the right direction but we must address the elephant in the room which is the Unvaccinated burdens who continue to flood the country. We need to deal with this immediately in order for my non-binary children to flourish. Thx

Sadly, this will effectively kill Arts programs in secondary schools. Young people have so few courses they get to choose because of all the mandatory courses already. I understand the need for exposure but a full credit is not the way to do it.

dumbest idea EVER... got to be Burgerbrain Ford's

😂 We will force you peasants to learn the labour we need! Capitalism is genuinely hilarious.

how about making the Premier pass a Gr12 math class?

When was this taken out of the curriculum? It was mandatory when I was in high school, 20 years ago.

This is a great Idea I pretty’s urge we had this in school there was auto shop, wood shop, home economics. You know we’re you can learn actually life skills.

Lots of technical and manufacturing jobs exited Canada and went to China. Bad Canadian policies.
