University of the East displayed its prowess on the piste as the Red Warriors claimed five of the six gold medals in team competition during the penultimate day of the UAAP Season 85 Fencing Championships on Saturday at the UST Gym in Manila.

The teams of UE clinched gold medals in girls and women's foil, boys and men's epee, and boy's sabre. University of Santo Tomas pocketed the gold medal in the men's sabre competition.The remaining six events in the team are being played at presstime.The epee team of UE Reynaldo Perez Jr., John Michael Sotto and Felipe brothers Shawn Nicollei and Prince John Felipe – gold medal winner in men's epee individual – defeated La Salle 45-40.

'Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na manaloka kami ng ganun, na talagang nag-bigay sa amin ng momentum sa finals kaya din naman naging magandang yung performance naming,' said Perez.The women's foil team of UE, composed of women's individual foil silver medalist Maricar Matienzo, Eytria Olarte, Queen Denise Dalmacio and Andrea Jenelle Matias, defeated the Marina Andrea Carbonell-led UP, 45-27.
