UCP to cap post-secondary tuition hikes at two per cent

The interest-free grace period for student loans will be increased from 6 months to 12 months. Interest rates on student loans will be reduced to the prime rate, down from the current prime-plus-one per cent rate introduced by the UCP in 2019. The threshold for the Repayment Assistance Plan will be increased from $25,000 to $40,000. That program reduces monthly student loan payments until students are earning above that threshold.

As well, the province is adding $2.25 million in student grant funding for the ongoing 2022–23 academic year, with the funds giving 10,000 low-income students an additional $225 per month, putting their total monthly grant to $475. That funding is retroactive to the start of the academic year and will be paid out in a lump sum, with students receiving the additional cash to be notified within the next two weeks.

Funny how everything they are doing before this election s bandaid on all the horrible things they did after they won the last election. Too bad bandaids don’t stay on for too long.
