“This is a case of someone being assaulted for walking while Black,” his lawyer David Shellnutt said. “He looked like somebody who police allege they were looking for.”Article content “In many cases, enforcement actions are met with resistance; not everyone wants to be arrested,” said Toronto Police Association president Jon Reid in a statement. “As these members face charges under the Police Services Act, the Association will ensure they are treated fairly throughout this process.”Article content

“Regardless of mistaken identity of who they were looking for, that this matter ended up with a young U of T student with a knee on his neck, the same manoeuvre that killed George Floyd just a year prior, and being repeatedly stunned by the same officer who was doing that is unacceptable,” Shellnutt said..

Does race have anything to do with the lawsuit? If a white University of Toronto student was suing would the title be the same? Doubt it.

What does colour matter?

People exaggerate a lot on incidents like this if there was body cam let see the video because the way the lawyer is explaining the incident might be different from what on video!

The headline should read A University of Toronto student why always stress on the colour of one’s skin? Why do they have to hold a press conference today? They’re suing why not go ahead with the lawsuit why do they want people to know about the lawsuit?

Wait, there is a Black University of Toronto?

Always looking for a payout. Will do anything for money except work

Must be nice to have that privilege

Shite, U of T is my Alma Matter, i didn't know it was black 😜😜😜

Black University? That does not sound very inclusive.

There needs to be more to the story than the alleged victims view point.

I didn't know there was a Black University in Toronto?

There’s a black university of Toronto?

Do we reference race when a white person is assaulted? 🤔

'The Defendant Officers Saliba and Baquiran then attempted to take Mr. Ogilvie to the ground and arrest him,” 2 female cops couldn’t take him to the ground and he ended up getting tackled and tased by a 3rd cop. How long did the struggle last before the 3rd officer arrived?

The parents are long time supporters and friends of Nigel Barriffe. Nigel is a professional anti-racism activist who is against police having tasers. This relationship needs to be considered in the events that lead up to the use of force and the decision to sue the police.

If this person wasn’t white a trial would have been held.

Oh Lord...it must be exhausting playing the victim 🤛🏿... Another Saint George Floyd!

sue these losers and make them penniless.

Can I ask what is the reason to inject the word “black” into the headline? Why do we always have to degrade people with darker skin? Can we not refer to them as friends, family, neighbours, co workers or Canadians?

Stupid thing to do. They cause the issue and then blame the police.
