The Sydney Academy Wildcats will look to claim the School Sport Nova Scotia Division 2 football provincial championship this weekend when they face the Woodlawn Panthers. A win would mark the Sydney school’s first-ever football title. JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY, N.S. – From the time the Sydney Academy Wildcats hit the field for training camp in September, the goal for the season was simple – win a championship.

Sydney Academy and Woodlawn will hit the field at Burnside Turf Field at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The teams didn’t face each other in the regular season.Sydney Academy Wildcats confident in quest to win program’s first high school football championship this season Wildcats head coach Lorne Burke was in attendance for the Panthers/Titans game in Dartmouth and considers both his team and Woodlawn to be evenly matched.

While the Wildcats are focusing on one play at a time in the game, the storyline going into the provincial championship can’t be avoided. A win would mark Sydney Academy’s first-ever football title.
