that Valley fever, a common flu-like illness caused by a fungus from the soil in the desert around Phoenix, ran rampant among the macaque colony and killed at least 47 monkeys died from the illness over the past eight years.
At one point, the NIH took the unusual step of restricting some of UW's grant funding, the letter said. • Was the NIH and grant overseers aware of the issues at the primate center? If so, what actions did they take in response?• Were all grant review committee members free of all conflicts of interest, including with UW?
• What standards does NIH rely upon to assess the extent of animal care violations that would lead to the termination of grant funding?
SenBooker should get the facts straight. Wa_NPRC is an outstanding facility committed to scientific discovery, nonhuman health wellbeing and conservation
Thank you for this excellent reporting. I'm glad Sen. Booker is looking out for U.S. taxpayers by ensuring that tax dollars aren't wasted on facilities -- like Univ of Washington's monkey facility in AZ -- that routinely flout animal welfare and biosecurity provisions. AllofUs
peta Thank u Senator Booker for caring. It is unacceptable that monkeys are tortured in this manner. The facility should be shut down. The oversight group that audits, claiming to find nothing problematic are liars or have no idea what they are doing. Stop animal slavery!
Is monkey farm code for the boarder?
Don’t worry about it, Marky Kelly and Kirsten Sinema have this under control, the border and the monkey farm, HA HAHAHA. Booker is just trying to become relevant. Nice try monkeyboy! Stay out of AZ.
Seems like this should be something our own senators should've been looking at...
