The LSSU club he advises hit pay dirt this past March when it placed during a collegiate competition hosted in Columbus, Ohio. “We’ve been approached by regional birders to help create a birding trail that runs ‘coast to coast’ between lakes Superior and Michigan,” said Mahaffy, who serves as club president. “We are hosting a campus birdwatching tour in September to help raise awareness for the effort.”
“We are going to help them create a day trail that runs from campus to Ashmun Creek, behind the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant out by I-75,” he said. “We’d like to do a long hike next month, perhaps to the Porkies. The club is also looking at a day snowshoe trip out to Tahquamenon Falls in the spring semester.”LSSU’s Chemistry Club wants to do a stargazing camping trip to Headlands State Park as soon as next month.
