If you made payments on your federal student loans during the extended payment pause, you can request a refund. For some, doing so may boost forgiveness.

Under President Biden's student loan debt relief plan, borrowers who made payments during the extended freeze may be able to get a refund.To request money back on any payments made since March 13, 2020, contact your loan servicer, the U.S. Department of Education said.

Borrowers who continued repaying their student loans during the payment pause have a unique opportunity to get a refund — and potentially, boost their forgiveness eligibility in the process., the payment pause on federal student loans was extended once again through Dec. 31.
