Several Columbus teachers were hit by pellets from a BB gun while picketing, but there were no serious injuries, reports say.

Picketers were able to give police a description of a vehicle from where the pellets were fired, reports say.

“The members said they will not be intimidated and CEA is doing everything we can to keep members safe,” Columbus Education Association spokesperson Regina Fuentes said, according to WBNS.after overwhelmingly rejecting the latest contract offer from district administrators.

The teachers union and administrators will resume negotiations with a mediator at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the first day students are scheduled to return to classes. Students will begin the year with remote learning because of the strike, the district said. It’s the first time teachers with the district, which is the largest in Ohio, have gone on strike since 1975. There are more than 4,500 members in the union and more than 47,000 students in the district.

Simon_D_Dallas The coverage beyond 'teachers strike' around actual demands and the school board + admin's self-indulgence has been paltry to say it kindly. Any chance y'all would be willing to remove the paywall from strike coverage so the nation can see what's going on in cbus?

With Columbus teachers striking, Center for Christian Virtue pitches private schoolsA Christian public-policy organization is telling parents that they have other options for their children in Columbus City Schools teacher strike. No one wants to pay for public schools, so let's pay EXTRA for elitist bullshit schools instead! Sounds about white. Ancient Irish proverb: When failed bargaining closes a school, God opens a window. Good. Shut it down. Hate it for the good kids.

Teachers and other CEA union members strike outside of Whetstone High SchoolTeachers and other CEA union walk up and down Henderson Rd., outside of Whetstone High School, on the second day of the strike. The building conditions ALONE are reason to strike. I’m amazed the teachers waited 50 years. I’m for proper teaching conditions, etc. But I do want to point out something that is quite oxymoronic coming out of these teachers mouth. “Safer schools.” Somehow, these same teachers had ZERO ISSUE when Ginther /Dixon REMOVED CPD from schools in the name of George Floyd.
