Background on raising taxes for schools in Jacksonville
Typically, UNF Public Opinion Research Lab Director Michael Binder says, taxes for schools favor well among the general public. The UNF poll showed a stark contrast in support from registered Democrats versus opposition from registered Republicans. Despite being politicized, school board races are considered nonpartisan. The proposed 1 mill increase, equating to $1 per $1,000 of taxable property value, would go toward raising teacher salaries along with funding for arts and athletics programs in schools countywide.
In Duval County, the average base salary of $47,458.26 is ranked 40th out of 69 for average teacher salaries statewide.
Funny thing… with the new makeup of our school board, this money won’t stop the exodus of good teachers. Unfortunately, things will get much worse for Duval students, teachers, and the community at large. FL school boards are full of unserious people. Brace up, Jacksonville.

DCPS responds to scathing report saying district underreported crimesA spokesperson for Duval County Public Schools addressed the latest report from a Florida grand jury that accuses the former director of Duval County Public Schools’ Police Department of severely underreporting instances of crimes on school campuses over a four-year period. Imagine how the victims of those crimes feel knowing this guy was responsible for them not getting justice. I hope at some point he has to listen to their stories. And who was his superior? Lol are you surprised, there's alot more that's not being said. Why do you think a LT retired shortly after being hired a few years ago? I've personally witnessed a fight at a football game, guess what, NO ONE was arrested. But yet they go after Teacher of the Year Caroline Lee when the accusations against her were obviously a lie.
