22 students working in the Sault - paid summer students learning vital skills

For several years, the Community Living Algoma Employment Network has been assisting individuals with developmental disabilities learn skills to help them get into the workforce.

“My teacher asked me ‘Hey Isabel, do you want to have a summer job’ and I said ‘heck, yeah, I would love that.’ I love what I’m doing,” said Nentwig, who is working as a greeter at the CLA office on Northern Avenue. Nentwig will be going into Grade 11 in September at White Pines, Devoe and Szostack into Grade 12 at St. Mary’s College.“It’s fantastic. It’s nice to see the community open up their doors to opportunities for these young people. It’s an opportunity to give them that next step to secure employment. They’ll have the skills. This is giving them that opportunity to move forward with those skills,” said Rocco Martone, CLA employment advisor.

“It feels good to be helping. It’s nice to grow a work friendship with each of them and to be workers together.”
