But it could distract from solutions to prevent more gun violence

Save time by listening to our audio articles as you multitaskThe inquiry revealed that it took 73 minutes from when the first officers arrived at the school to when they entered the classroom and confronted the shooter there. The delay deprived victims of medical care that might have saved lives, the report notes. In all, 376 law-enforcement officials were deployed to Robb Elementary. None took command.

Police also wasted valuable time searching for a key to the classroom and did not share crucial details with each other, including that students were phoning for help from inside classrooms targeted by the shooter. Law enforcement “failed to prioritise saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety,” the report concludes.

The police are now in the public’s crosshairs. Residents of Uvalde, a town of 15,000, are calling for the school-district police chief to be sacked. The town’s acting police chief was placed on administrative leave within hours of the report’s release. The investigation and its findings are vital. But some worry that a focus on police error will detract from other failings, without which the shooting might not have happened in the first place: a lack of mental-health treatment, and lax rules on gun purchases. In the Lone Star state there is no political momentum to tackle either of these. As Texans search for lessons from Uvalde, they may be missing the biggest ones.

The disappointment those children must have felt in those moments on top of everything else.

Why are you running such obvious articles? WE KNOW THIS. NEXT!

That's liberalism for you

I guarantee you 200% if the mother's of those kids had been allowed to, every one of them would have stormed that classroom immediately, unarmed.

This is the same attitude the US military has so it's no surprise that law enforcement has adopted the same attitude. Militarisatuonnof law enforcement has been going on for a long time. Wait for when they kill a few kids taking out the shooter and say it's just collateral damage

Something fishy here. Someone should went rouge Rambo style. Don't make sense. I'm not buying it...

When seconds matter — the police just stand around for 77 minutes.

Police have no legal obligation to help you Zero obligation and cowardice gives you this shameful event You are on your own

There is a word for this - cowardice. Your editor isn’t doing a good job.

Worst mass shooting...at a school...in Texas. Do you know why the rest of the world is afraid of the US? Monkeys with guns.

mgkkain

It's very clear...American law enforcement are cowards especially in Texas. Or they felt those mostly Hispanic kids at the school were not worth the risk. So racists or cowards, likely both.

When the police prioritize their own safety they aren't serving you.

Charge them.

Maybe no one told them what their job description is. SMH

“Is the scene safe?”

I mean, No shit

So, not doing what they are literally paid to do.

'Botched' is not the first word that comes to mind in regard to 400 cops waiting more than an hour while the shooter was in a classroom with kids who were hiding and others who were bleeding out.
