A nonprofit in Wheat Ridge named after former Columbine principal is working to combat school shootings.

May 25, 2022 at 7:29 pm– Coloradans, unfortunately, are no strangers to horrific mass shootings. That’s why a nonprofit in Wheat Ridge says it’s actively working to combat this type of violence: theThe Center was created to bolster school safety training and tactics for mass casualty tragedies; it’s a place where law enforcement and safety officials can have difficult conversations, test tactics, and share lessons learned; both failures and successes.

“It was a remarkable outcome with two students shot that day. The kids came to me in the aftermath of that and said we need to be better,” McDonald told CBS4’s Mekialaya White. “We created what has become the standard in national training and we train every student in JeffCo,” he said.

Just make sure the schools do their part by securing all entryways. Yeah, the shooter can shoot the locks but that would give the staff and teachers time to lock down. This should not be a gun issue. This should be a parent/education/mental health issue. Mental health resources are needed as well. Many of these mass shooters have warning signs that could be caught if we had a hotline or something to call and a system to evaluate potential shooters. This was 100% the schools fault. How, just how does a man walk into an elementary school without anyone stopping or questioning his presence?
