One day after 19 children and two teachers were shot and killed inside a Texas elementary school, CBS4 wanted to find answers surrounding the fact we continue to see the same outcome with no evidence of serious change.

Kim Gorgens, a professor of psychology at the University of Denver, explained part of the equation is balancing our reactions to the tragedies.

She detailed a situation where feeling too much of the pain and suffering can lead to a sense of hopelessness, but shutting off emotional connection completely leads to disengagement and a lack of solutions as well. It’s a mission Columbine survivor Crystal Woodman-Miller has taken upon herself to stop school shootings like these from happening again. She agrees, there is more work to be done.

She believes the solution will need to be multifaceted in order to address the factors that combine into mass shootings, but said change can start now.

Democrats and liberals ignore tangible solutions and preach against them. That is how it keeps happening.

Censoring opposing ideas is not the answer.

It’s the guns.

Libs are p***** at gun owners and they want to punish gun owners and that is all they want to do. We need to harden our soft targets, that means locked doors camera systems and someone to monitor them. That means training for lockdowns like they do for weather events the events.

It is not apathy, liberals and democrats refuse to take action action and utilize tangible solutions.

It’s called the NRA.

“Our tolerance for you know, the moments of silence and thoughts and prayers ... this is the time when that tide will turn both at polling stations but also with fiscal year budgets for next year ... we might be able to make some meaningful changes.” What exactly does this mean?

Will any changes be made in wake of another mass shooting in Texas? In the wake of Tuesday’s deadly school shooting in Uvalde, the state’s Republican leaders are already facing questions about whether enough was done after past mass shootings. Just make sure the schools do their part by securing all entryways. Yeah, the shooter can shoot the locks but that would give the staff and teachers time to lock down. This should not be a gun issue. This should be a parent/education/mental health issue. Mental health resources are needed as well. Many of these mass shooters have warning signs that could be caught if we had a hotline or something to call and a system to evaluate potential shooters. This was 100% the schools fault. How, just how does a man walk into an elementary school without anyone stopping or questioning his presence?
