I left one of several reception centres in this town at around 10.30pm last night and the image I held in my mind all night is of a group of small children.
They’re wrapping the children up, they're getting food for them, they’re spoon feeding children and you look at these women and you know that they are just keeping it together. Their faces are tight and drawn, they're fulfilling what really is an age old thing needing to just keep on going and care for vulnerable people - in this case children - at a time of trauma.
They're arriving in from different places, from Kyiv, Kharkiv and other places in Ukraine and after a few hours many of them are getting on other buses and going on, they’re going deeper into Poland, they're going to Krakow, they're going to Warsaw. There was a bus I saw yesterday going to Hamburg. So far Poland is coping really well - I mean in the midst of the misery of all this, I've seen scenes of tremendous kindness. You see volunteers playing with little children. The people I've spoken to have nothing but praise for the treatment they've received from Polish people. Also people travelling from the farthest side of Ukraine [are] full of praise for Ukrainian people they met along the way.
