Utah Education Association President Heidi Matthews said 93% of UEA members say they are likely to leave the profession after the 2021-22 academic year.

Teachers derided the bills during the protest. They’re already tired dealing with the “mental health tsunami” students are navigating because of the pandemic, said Park City High School teacher Kelly Yeates. “We don’t need more hoops to jump through,” she added.

“Transparency in education is not achieved through coercion,” said Park City High School student Carly McAleer. “I remember the good old days when we just had to fight for funding,” Arthur said. “Now it feels like we have to fight for our lives ... I just couldn’t believe that after all that we’ve given, all that we’ve done ... You’re going to ask more of us?”

The amendment adds bullying as a qualifier for applicants to the program. It also matches scholarships to the average amount of per-pupil funding, based on local and state funding, according to Pierucci. “Despite schools’ best efforts, bullying still happens,” she said. “And it is not always something they can stop completely.”

Pierucci spoke last, telling the crowd of nearly 70, “I am a product of public education. I think we have a great public education system, but we’re kidding ourselves if we think that a one-size-fit-all approach works.”

Corruption is always common in corrupt government

I’m worried this is exactly what they want us to do. Exhaust educators so much that they leave, public education goes down the drain, and they can expand private school voucher programs. Stay put folks! We need you🙏🏼

Have taught for 12 years. My year in a Utah high school was the worst.

It is almost like the GOP is using the Voldemort playbook. Taking over education to control the people.

I encourage them to leave earlier. Utah is a miserable state to be a public educator in. Make the system collapse to get the change we need.

😢

All of the kids who won't be groomed as a result:

I left last year. Best decision I have ever made. Especially in Utah.

Already know of 3 fantastic teachers at one High School in SLCO that panned to teach another 10 yrs and retire. They love teaching. They are resigning at school years end. They have had enough of the UTleg interfering with their jobs.

All wearing masks outside lol I’m fine if they leave the state hahahahah bye and fyi it’s not that high it’s a bluff

I would be surprised if more than 5% left the profession at the end of the school year. 🤷🏽‍♂️

My daughter dropped her studies to be a teacher and is switching career choices after the last two years.

Thanks UTParentsUnited as of Covid wasn’t enough you’ve made a mess

I wouldn’t blame them one bit.

Better pass HB331 then so we can replace you all. Thanks!

I’m curious to know how many haters in the comments actually have kids?

I would guess a lot of them don't like union leadership either....regardless...the 93% number Pure BS

I’m sure govcox and the rest of the state’s employees will step in to fill the void

I don’t blame them

I don't blame them.

And just what do they think they’re qualified to do if they left the profession of teaching? No other job has the days off, summers off, etc. McDonalds is hiring.

2/2 Economy gets derailed. I know we like to complain about schools a lot. But they play a HUGE role in keeping our society and economy running smooth. Take it away and very bad things will happen.

So let’s just say all we do have a mass exodus of teachers. Not 93%, but say 50%. That would completely devastate our system. Public schools couldn’t function. If school districts shut down, kids stay home. Parents have to figure out how to work and take care of kids. 1/2

Wow.

Cox calls for long-term housing as Utah enters 2nd phase to help Afghan refugeesThe second phase to help Afghan refugees resettle in Utah includes homework help, mentorship programs through the Utah Refugee Center, English language education and technology courses. These aren’t necessarily the ones who helped the USA in anyway the last 20 years. Many that did help got left behind by Biden to be murdered by the Taliban. We may never know how many of these refugees simply pushed their way to the front of the line and jumped on a plane.

How Utah is handling its largest refugee resettlement in state historyJust over 900 Afghan refugees have moved to Utah – the largest refugee resettlement in state history – since the Taliban took power over Afghanistan. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced a plan to help assimilate Afghan immigrants, many whom are deemed humanitarian parolees, in the state by offering them housing, education and work opportunities. These aren’t necessarily the ones who helped the USA in anyway the last 20 years. Many that did help got left behind by Biden to be murdered by the Taliban. We may never know how many of these refugees simply pushed their way to the front of the line and jumped on a plane. Good thing we don't have any native Utahns that need housing or jobs! What if we assimilated them somewhere else? Instead of in a city, with its expensive services, we could help them set up a colony of their own in the countryside, which would be better for them in the long run.
