. After George Floyd’s killing at the hands of police in 2020, many school districts stepped up efforts to make schools more comfortable, inclusive places for students and staff of all backgrounds. But intense debate over how schools deal with race is leading some districts to rethink and in some cases reverse plans.

Since issues of diversity, equity and inclusion can thread their way through every part of a school system — including recruitment, services and equipment — the debate carries implications for hiring and spending. “Even in districts that aren’t threatened as much, they’re thinking twice about what they say and what they do and how they go about doing it because it is having a chilling effect on the whole equity, diversity and inclusion movement,” Domenech said.

Critics questioned the findings and the way they were presented, at a series of public meetings called “equity cafes” that some said limited full discussions. Conservative candidates set their sights on the school board, with three winning seats in the November election.Board President Parth Melpakam said by email that the new board had yet to discuss the issue but plans to at a work session in the spring.

The district’s diversity, equity and inclusion guidebook, no longer visible on the district’s website, proposed ways to recruit diverse job candidates and improve training for teachers, and encouraged lessons that invite students to reflect on their own culture and history.

17,000 school Dist is US. 60 million students.The largest 100 districts run by overly educated administrators serve over half-this is where the problems are. Smaller districts run by parents are efficient & successful. Divide the big districts, give parents control.

The educators are distracted. Parents want their children to read to write to do math, they don’t want radicals. They don’t want teachers passing values.

Black history month seemed more like black repression month.

The statement by the 2nd grader was a moment to educate, to correct that class. This is similar to Voting Rights, we are still on the same path. For some this is a new path, we must educate the children. No more secrets, lies, miseducated….

Just teach history. The whole accurate, truthful, raw, good/bad history without the divisive crap. Children of less desirable parental qualities aren't going to be positively motivated by the divisive tactics and children whose parents aren't 'racist', 'prejudice' don't need it.

Math, reading, writing 1st, wokeism last. History is important to teach and the lessons of slavery and jim crow should not be ignored. That said, we are failing to prepare our children for the future. We are near last in science and math 🙄 I love the word salad they use when trying claim that diversity and equity doesn’t mean favoring one group over another. Anything they call “data driven” usually isn’t actually driven by data.
