Rudra started assisting Swinburne University researchers when he was in grade six. Three years later, he has just co-authored a scientific article alongside a leading astronomer.

Spend an evening looking at the night sky with Rudra and he might show you the Orion Nebula, tell you the story of the sisters of the Pleiades constellation, or marvel at the beauty of the Milky Way band.He has been assisting Swinburne University research since grade sixHe would share his knowledge with you in lay terms, but the 15-year-old's true level of understanding of astronomy is well beyond his years.

"I was so fascinated and raised my hand to ask a question. The lecturer pointed to me and said, 'Let's hear from the young scientist'," Rudra says. He also reached out to more academics and, in grade six, scored a weekly stint assisting Swinburne University scientists Professor Matthew Bailes and Dr Chris Flynn study the universe."He is such a talent. He came to us with really strong programming skills already and has just gone from strength to strength," Dr Flynn says."He's really just totally grasped what's going on and is following everything and making suggestions.

Many factors like the stars' brightness and colour can influence how the telescope measures the distance to the star.Scientists working with the telescope's data have put forth algorithms that correct the margin of error in the parallaxes of stars.
