Part of the education. Never borrow more than you can repay

Good move

The great american fiasco, together w the health system. !!

My brother went to Ohio State, got his girlfriend pregnant, got married, had three more kids, works as a General Manager at Cane's chicken and now his chickens lay eggs.

Maybe she should have studied economics

Why would you take on $160,000 in debt for a degree on public health? Anything above 2x of the reasonably expected salary in your field simply means you don’t understand how to manage your money.

“Ms. Jones is working freelance on public-health campaigns for nonprofits making about $1,500 a month. “ Work harder. With this kind of job, you won’t be able to pay back even you go to cummunity college. This is not a job, more like a volunteer for your passion.

We all have to what we have to do. We all have speed bumps in life we have to overcome.

Her choice to go to college, her debt, be and act like an adult.

Luckily they teach basic Economics at NYU ... right?

No one wants the address the ridiculous amount of money that professors make or even that professional athletes make.

My daughter went to a Community College but I have to pay for someone who chose ridiculously expensive NYU.

There are ten million jobs available, what’s the problem?

She can't secure a job in public health during a pandemic? Here you go honey, you'll get hired in a NY minute and probably clearing over $100K after 5 years.

This is a non-story. If you read the article, you will see that most NYU graduates should easily be able to pay back the loans quickly. Their incomes when they graduate are easily over 6-figures in most degrees.

HER eggs! From tweet line, I thought she had a FARM. She is 'considering leaving the field': CONSIDERING? WHAT 'field' ? She has no FIELD. IF ONLY govt didn't hand out loans - have the COLLEGES give the loans and they might say ' ya know, coding is better.. pays $100k/yr '.

💔😢😢not right, not human American Education should be ashamed of what students go through to get higher education in one of the most powerful rich country in the World.😢😢very sad

Who wants eggs of a stupid?

The majority of people who go to college never land a high paying job in their field. There’s only so much room at the top of the pyramid.

Must have a stupid major.

$160k for a masters in public health, honestly she deserves this.

How do we write and publish books? We could all make a lot of money by telling off our colleges and exposing the disturbing living conditions in the early 2000's!

“Local Idiot Spends $160k on Useless Piece of Paper.” There I fixed your headline

Weird.

The PLUS/GradPlus programs need annual and lifetime caps. Today, they're a blank check to schools. And schools need to spend their goddamned endowments or lose their tax-exempt status.

It's not hard to figure out if the degree you want will be worth the school you go to. Or if you really want that schools name then go to a smaller school the first two years. Unless your a doctor no one cares where you graduated from.

People letting universities off the hook are misguided. No we should NOT be canceling student debt. We should be regulating private universities

Yeah don’t think you want that genome. Unless you want stupid offspring that is.

I think people are being scammed by these tuition programs and something needs to be done about 5his

She milked it and is selling eggs. She needs milk wagon since she has expertise in milking the public tit.

A lot of people just don't understand what a loan is.

That's a human tragedy. We're really not helping our young people are we? In fact, we should be investing in their education and making it free so we all get the benefits of their knowledge and we get continuity of current development.

Did they catch the people who held the gun to her head and make her take out those loans?

This is peak WSJ / GOP nirvana, right?

Why does this story show up every few days.

These are the same people who do all kinds of price comparisons before buying their next smartphone.

Liberal art degrees don’t pay

🤣🤣🤣🤣

We all want to have an opinion but we all can't afford it.

Degree from NYU: $300,00+ Looking down your nose telling people you graduated from NYU: Priceless

Clearly education needs to be reinvented so that curriculum comprise of challenges of climate, economy, inequality so that everyone gets oppurtunities. Education is more topdown favours elites who got big resources to make tech, regulations and resources turn for their profit

😂😂 but the tax payer should pay off the loans they took out for worthless degrees! 😂😂

The irony of getting a graduate degree and not being able to do simple math 🙄

You mean a masters degree in ethno-studies and climate injustice doesn’t get you hired Poor babies. Let’s tax some plumbers and construction contractors to pay off their debit..

Doesn’t look like her eggs would be worth much?

Cost Benefit Analysis is always an option. And, it’s free.

Prior to building up debt, not researching job opportunities in her specific field, not deciding to work full time in a manual / labour's job to cover debts, decides to sell her eggs as easier. It's called choice.

Maybe she should have gotten a degree that pays better.

Just sue NYU. That's what everyone is doing. Yet it's your fault for borrowing way to much. And no, don't expect taxpayers to bail you out.

These stories are always the same= ignorant people borrowing money that they have no idea or plans to repay. Except that with the Dems in office, they expect every other American to pay their loans for them. Can’t wait till they buy a house….

So nobody forced these people to borrow this much money or go to these schools. Why should they be exempt from consequences of bad financial decisions.

I guess basic math isn’t taught these days? Salary - cost: Income…

here’s an idea 💡 put universities on the hook for these debts and the useless degrees they offer. bad universities will fail.

Over 200k in student loans here and in same position.

Allow bankruptcy to clear student loan debt. No way they would loan some $160k if bankruptcy were allow. That would lower allowed debt levels, punish poor lending practices and force tuition to decrease. Funny thing the free market.

I told my kids you’re going to a state school unless they got a scholarship from somewhere else that matched a state school. I lectured them often about how they would have no life drowning in debt & told them they would ending up living with me a long time. That did the trick.

America that way is a terrible country. With such commercialised education no way the poor or middle class can afford. The world’s richest most powerful government should at least provide education to all.

Stupid! For now.

Did she believe she’d land a job in the “Public Health” arena that made a $160k investment a sound decision? Seems like a poor decision to spend that kind of money on ANY degree!

This is the result of easy government money. Colleges raise tuition to astronomical levels because they know students will simply borrow to pay for this. Cut the spigot of easy government loans and tuition will go down. Besides, there’s always public universities.

Did she not choose this? She could have gone elsewhere for a lot less money. Why should taxpayers fund her stupidity?

Are we supposed to feel sorry for a person who chose to spent $160k for a master’s degree at one of the most expensive schools in the country, in the most expensive city, and can’t find a job in a field with almost no unemployment?

This article has been in my feed at least 10x over a period of days. Stop posting please.

What the heck are these kids studying? I just retired 2 years ahead of time from a job in IT with a salary of $129k plus an additional 18k yearly bonus. Zero college. Zero debt. Just a whole lot of experience, integrity and hard work.

Such a loaded headline. Try “NYU grad spends 160k on a masters degree program that aligns with career field that averages 70k in annual salary.”

Looks like she is not struggling to find a job in Har field. It's just that her field does not pay very much.

It was HER choice to go to that school and her parents choice to not save enough so I am glad she is owning up

She could have gone to any number of universities for far less money, including in NYC. She made a poor choice.

The eggs from someone dull enough to pay 160K for a silly degree have zero market value anyway

A resourceful debtor.

A college degree is NO guarantee of a job nor is anyone owed a job. There is so much work available right now it’s shameful that anyone would do this. If you’d do this and not work your probably unstable and a risky employee to have.

Every time these stories run, we get a little closer to the truth. The problem isn't the lenders, but the institutions selling worthless degrees that are supposed to be redeemed by a facade of prestige. Her student loans shouldn't be forgiven. They should be paid by NYU.

I could not read the article to know what field she graduated in. Most students are fooled into believing that if they spent 4 years in college graduating in any subject they will have it made. Unless they pursue a marketable degree it is just a waste of time and borrowed money.

Can't get past paywall - what did she study?

None of this is shocking considering the avg person can’t think more than 6 days into the future when it comes to finances.

And yet it’s one of the greatest bastions of wokeness. I’m seeing a correlation hereee!

We need to end government-guaranteed loan programs. Universities have exploited this program for too long.

US gov’t guarantees repayment of student loans without any protection to borrowers by regulating qualify nor employment guarantee. Universities defrauding students, corps abusing edu. system & financial industry’s greed over public good are exactly how society screws its future.

“Now 28 years old, Ms. Jones is working freelance on public-health campaigns for nonprofits making about $1,500 a month” really? NYC’s minimal wage is $15/hr. If she works 40hr/w x 4w, that’s $2400. And I am talking about minimal wages

Hope she is a good layer. Doesn’t seem to be able to peck the numbers.

That's okay I made 289k this year

SorryElon MindTheBonk

In my country, 'her eggs' means the eggs laid by the chickens in her backyard.

She made bad financial choices and continues to make them. She’ll never pay off those loans living in NYC. She’ll never make enough. She is limiting her job options by sticking to an expensive city

Can’t land a job during a pandemic within public health field? Sounds like a useless degree. More then half of college degrees don’t make sense from an ROI perspective- most kids should not be going to a four year college.

There’s labor shortage everywhere and she can’t find a job…that is weird. What is her GPA?
