Yobe State Chairman of the NUT, Comrade Ado Idrissa stated this at an occasion marking the 2021 Teachers’ Day in Damaturu.

“Government in its wisdom should look into this issue immediately by the replacing retired teachers as it was done before, the extension of service years or age or immediate employment of young competent and qualified one”, he appealed. According to Idrissa despite the security challenge that has lasted for more than a decade, teachers in the Yobe State were working towards the attainment of the objective of education in an emergency in the state.

The Chairman who underscored the importance of teachers in the society also called on the governor to consider teachers in its housing scheme. The theme for this year’s World Teachers’Day, “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”, many said it is apt considering the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the education sector.
