Early Wednesday morning, a historic Catholic church in Alberta was destroyed by fire and a Catholic church at a First Nation in Nova Scotia was damaged by flames. The fires occurred less than a month after the discovery of what’s believed to be the remains of 215 children in unmarked graves at a former residential school site in Kamloops, B.C.The Cowessess First Nation in southeastern Saskatchewan also announced last week that ground-penetrating radar detected a potential 751 unmarked graves at the site of the former Marieval Indian Residential School.
Indigenous peoples are angry and fed up with political platitudes that mean nothing; they want not only heartfelt apologies but compensation from the Catholic church that brutalized indigenous peoples not only in Canada but in South America, Australia, New Zealand and the US.
Erasing buildings will not erase history; people should learn from it.
Remember the furnaces in the schools where babies were burnt alive?! Remember and never under estimate the power of grief. I understand the fury and pain.
Improve the future instead of censoring the past.
I wonder how many skilled craftsmen worked on those buildings, how many years they've stood... How many people have enjoyed their masonry and art. Shame to see Canadians being whipped up like this.
Wokes cheering burned churches while being offended at other religious hate crimes shows they totally lost their way. Hatred is deep in woke-land.
So what is the way? For starters, we can start charging property tax to one of the largest real estate owners on the planet..the Catholic Church
